Grateful Dead Est. 1965 What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been Whiskey Glass

Why the Grateful Dead Est. 1965 What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been Whiskey Glass is a Must-Have
The Grateful Dead Est. 1965 What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been Whiskey Glass goes all the way back to Palo Alto, California in 1965, when a band called the Warlocks ?” Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, and Ron “Pigpen” McKernan ?” found out another group already had the name and rechristened themselves the Grateful Dead. “What a long, strange trip it’s been” comes straight out of Robert Hunter’s lyrics for “Truckin'” off American Beauty in 1970, and it’s been the unofficial Deadhead motto ever since ?” from the Acid Tests with Ken Kesey to the final 30-year run that ended in summer 1995. This Grateful Dead glass puts the whole cosmic journey into a heavy rocks tumbler.
The whiskey glass is a clear weighted rocks tumbler with a glowing rainbow cosmic background printed across the front ?” purples, magentas, blues, and pinks swirling like a Jerry guitar solo at Red Rocks. The Steal Your Face skull sits dead center ?” the silver skull split by the iconic 13-point lightning bolt that Owsley Stanley designed in 1969 as the band’s road-case stencil. Roses and rosebuds curl around both sides of the skull, dancing bears in their classic original colors march along the upper border, and music notes float across the night sky with a sprinkling of stars. A gold name plate across the base reads “GRATEFUL DEAD • EST. 1965” with “WHAT A LONG STRANGE TRIP IT’S BEEN” beneath it. The matching gift box is rich purple wood with the Steal Your Face skull, lightning bolt, roses, and the same quote pressed in gold foil on the lid, lined with deep purple satin and finished with a brass clasp.
This is the glass for the friend who chased the band from the Greek Theatre to Soldier Field, a parent who saw the boys at the Capitol Theatre in ’72, or anyone who’s followed Dead & Company through their Sphere residency in Vegas. Birthday, holiday, or just a slow Sunday with Workingman’s Dead on the turntable ?” wrap it for any Deadhead who knows that the trip never really ends.
